Description
For four days we stayed in a small rorbu, or fishermen's cabin, sometimes known as rorbuer, built over the fjord and nearby Norwegian sea, just south of Tind, Norway. The tiny village is located at the southern tip of the Lofoten Islands and is known as Å. We could hear the waves splashing the rocks used as a footing for the cabin as we slept at night.
Å, is a village in Moskenes in Nordland county, Norway, near Sørvågen on the island of Moskenesøya, off route E10 highway or King Olav's Road. I call this town, the "End Of the Road" village. E10 ends here. This is as far south in the Lofotens as you can travel by car. Want to go further south, it will it will be by two legs or boat.
Until the 1990s, Å was mainly a small fishing village specializing in stockfish, but since then tourism has taken over as the main economic activity.
The village (originally a farm) is first mentioned in 1567. The name is from Old Norse á which means small river.
