We haven't had much rain since July, so I really didn't expect much when I headed up to the Jefferson National Forest, part of the Blue Ridge Parkway between Lynchburg and Roanoke, near Bedford and Buchanan, Virginia near the Peaks of Otter. This is what I found on the Blue Ridge one Autumn afternoon, wonderful rust colors with a backdrop of the famous blue mountains layered as far as the eye could see. Sharp Top Mountain and Flat Top Mountain are behind the ridges, in dark blue.
