Description
Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest is a plantation estate in Forest, Bedford County, Virginia. He designed the plantation and used the property as a private retreat, to get away from his more famous Monticello in Charlottesville and his many guests who were constantly visiting. Poplar Forest is undergoing restoration after being in private hands until the 1980's. Like Monticello, it is a brick octagonal structure with porticos on both sides of the house. This photograph is an aerial drone photograph.
Designated a National Historic Landmark, Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest is an award-winning historic restoration in progress, nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Poplar Forest is near Lynchburg VA and Bedford VA in Forest VA.
