The Black Dog Tavern, Store and Bakery have a total of 15 stores spread across Maine and Massachusetts. The picture here shows the sign in Portland, Maine from the sidewalk. It started out life as a general store with the owner taking his dog, a black lab mix to work every day, thus morphing into the name "Black Dog."

The Black Dog brand's home is located in Martha's Vineyard.
The Black Dog logo used for T-shirts worn by the waiters at the tavern, but customers kept asking for T-shirts and other merchandise with the logs and a retail business was born.
