South of Charleston and north of Beaufort in Yemassee south Carolina is the Old Sheldon Church ruins framed by very old Live Oak Trees, Autumn leaves, nearby old graves and late afternoon sunbeams. Add this scenic site to your road trip along with nearby plantations.
Old Sheldon Church was originally known as Prince William's Parish Church and was built in the Greek Revival style between 1745 and 1753. It was burned down by the British in 1779 during the Revolutionary War. In 1826, it was rebuilt only to be burned again by General Sherman in February 1865. Inside the ruins of the church is the burial site of Colonel William Bull, who, along with General Oglethorpe, was key in establishing the physical layout of Savannah, Georgia.
However there is an alternative eyewitness account that Sheldon was not burnt by Sherman's troops, In a letter dated February 3, 1866, Miton Leverett wrote that 'Sheldon Church not burn't. Just torn up in the inside, but can be repaired.' I...

Like many photographers, I didn't begin the process becoming a professional photographer, as a conscious decision. The decision was a linear progression over many years. I like to travel, so naturally would photograph to document our travels. My before retirement job required I learn the basics of photography and programming using a point and shoot camera. The move to professional photography changed over time. I was encouraged to buy a better camera as my photographs got better. Gradually as my photography got better, I was further encouraged to move to selling and becoming a professional. We are surrounded by beauty, but so much isn't noticed.
