Description
Beginning as a simple 12-room adobe boarding house, in 1876, the Mission Inn has become a world class hotel and is a cornerstone of the old historic distric of Riverside, Calfornia (CA).
By the 1890's Riverside was the wealthiest city in the United States as a result of it's welcoming climate, appealing to both US residents and those from Europe and the citrus industry which was prospering in California.
Frank Miller, the inn owner recognized the need for a larger, grander hotel and elevated his offering adding gardens as well as more rooms to the hotel and invested heavily in the infrastructure to upgrade the inn.
Frank Miller opened the first wing, The Mission, of his new hotel in 1903, which was built in Mission-Revival style architecture and incorporated different structural elements of the 21 existing California Missions. He went on to add three more wings, the latest in 1931.
What a delight it is to just walk the grounds of the inn as well as visit the Mission Inn museum, the entrance pictured here.
