On my list of favorite places to photograph in the Smoky Mountains had to have been the old Mingus Mill off Newfound Gap Road. It was late in the afternoon, and there were numbers of people hanging around which made getting the shot a patience game, but I finally was able to photograph the old historic Tennessee mill's details, the supporting logs under the old race funneling water to the mill and the overflow waterfall which bleeds off the extra water not needed.
Built in 1886, this historic grist mill uses a water-powered turbine instead of a water wheel to power all of the machinery in the building. (RB)
