This scenic old grist mill, Big Otter Mill is located in Bedford, Virginia along the Big Otter River. Built by Joseph Hardy, Sr., a veteran of the Revolutionary War who settled here in the late 1700s. In 1785 the county granted him permission to erect a mill at this site which became operational in the 18th century. Constructed of mortise-and-tenon framing and is topped by an unusual and picturesque mansard roof. All proceeds are being given for restoration of this old mill.

Like many photographers, I didn't begin the process becoming a professional photographer, as a conscious decision. The decision was a linear progression over many years. I like to travel, so naturally would photograph to document our travels. My before retirement job required I learn the basics of photography and programming using a point and shoot camera. The move to professional photography changed over time. I was encouraged to buy a better camera as my photographs got better.
