After spending a few nights around Etretat on the Normandy, English Channel coastline, we headed west, our first stop the Phare Cap d'Antifer Lighthouse. The cliffs around the lighthouse are fabulous. I was hesitant to get too close to the cliffs. They are made of limestone, the same as the white cliffs of Dover, and are soft and prone to slides. I wanted to make sure I was not part of the peeling off process.

This area is part of what is known as the French Côte d'Albâtre (Alabaster coast) of the English Channel, in Seine-Maritime district.

The need for a lighthouse on the Cap d’Antifer, was identified in 1889, primarily to aid navigation to the entrance Le Havre. It was suggested that it should have a powerful light source, similar to that used for other landfall lighthouses, as the existing light at Fécamp was inadequate in this respect.

Like many photographers, I didn't begin the process becoming a professional photographer, as a conscious decision. The decision was a linear progression over many years. I like to travel, so naturally would photograph to document our travels. My before retirement job required I learn the basics of photography and programming using a point and shoot camera. The move to professional photography changed over time. I was encouraged to buy a better camera as my photographs got better. Gradually as my photography got better, I was further encouraged to move to selling and becoming a professional. We are surrounded by beauty, but so much isn't noticed.
