I expected to find sunny skies on a trip to Botany Bay State Park on Edisto Island, South Carolina on this day in December, but was greeted by low contrast skies and high tides which covered the causeway over to the two islands you must pass to get to their famous Live Oake Trees.
When we are out shooting, we are always asked by others, "did you get a good shot?" I always tell people the same thing. "I have to get home and then see what I have." Sometimes we know we did well, but then there are other days like this one where jewels are hidden in the raw images. The stark branches against the soft water of the ocean in a long exposure is a stunning example of what simple lines can yield when deciding what to photograph. Perfect in black and white.
What I came home with were striking photos highlighting the second life these trees are giving us in photos. What a marvelous day I had. I hope you enjoy this on your walls as much as I loved this day!
2nd place win in...
Like many photographers, I didn't begin the process becoming a professional photographer, as a conscious decision. The decision was a linear progression over many years. I like to travel, so naturally would photograph to document our travels. My before retirement job required I learn the basics of photography and programming using a point and shoot camera. The move to professional photography changed over time. I was encouraged to buy a better camera as my photographs got better. Gradually as my photography got better, I was further encouraged to move to selling and becoming a professional. We are surrounded by beauty, but so much isn't noticed. Photography has encouraged me to create so beauty is noticed and appreciated. I am just a...

Greetings to a sweet young lady and a highly accomplished artist, In your eloquent biography you wrote that we're surrounded by beauty, but so much isn't noticed. Obviously, that statement does not apply to you because you see beauty in everything, even dead branches such as the ones in this lovely shot. You see beauty in everything because you're blessed with beauty in your gentle soul, my lady.
