This scenic old grist mill, Big Otter Mill is located in Bedford, Virginia along the Big Otter River. Built by Joseph Hardy, Sr., a veteran of the Revolutionary War who settled here in the late 1700s. In 1785 the county granted him permission to erect a mill at this site which became operational in the 18th century. Constructed of mortise-and-tenon framing and is topped by an unusual and picturesque mansard roof. Also available in black and white. All proceeds are being given to this old mill for her restoration. An award contest winner photograph. Would make a wonderful Christmas card.

Like many photographers, I didn't begin the process becoming a professional photographer, as a conscious decision. The decision was a linear progression over many years. I like to travel, so naturally would photograph to document our travels. My before retirement job required I learn the basics of photography and programming using a point and shoot camera. The move to professional photography changed over time. I was encouraged to buy a better camera as my photographs got better. Gradually as my photography got better, I was further encouraged to move to selling and becoming a professional. We are surrounded by beauty, but so much isn't noticed.
