In January where do you want to be? In January I don't normally think about being at the beach. But this January we were at Edisto Island, south of Charleston, South Carolina. north of Hilton Head Island, their more famous neighbors. Our tiny travel trailer was parked right beside this beach at Edisto for a week.
I woke up one morning and it was very foggy, perfect weather for catching some moody photos. I caught this one of a family with three small children, too small to be of school age, perfect for a young family who needs some me time at the beach, no crowds, just walks on the beach, some great seafood and family bonding time.
I love this photo, the fog, the small water feature and the silhouette reflections of this normal family and their loving care of their children being reflected back at me. They never knew I was there.

Like many photographers, I didn't begin the process becoming a professional photographer, as a conscious decision. The decision was a linear progression over many years. I like to travel, so naturally would photograph to document our travels. My before retirement job required I learn the basics of photography and programming using a point and shoot camera. The move to professional photography changed over time. I was encouraged to buy a better camera as my photographs got better. Gradually as my photography got better, I was further encouraged to move to selling and becoming a professional. We are surrounded by beauty, but so much isn't noticed.
