How perfect and ever changing is the ocean. Every day offers a new lighting experience. No day is the same. Although not great for swimming, the Palm coastline near St, Augustine, Marine Land, Flagler Beach and Ormond Beach in Florida offers other delights, especially for a photographer. These rocks are called Coquina and they are formed from very small shell creatures bound together like a form of cement. The water is aqua blue flowing over golden sands formed from the rocks.
As you can see the sand is a very mustard yellow/orange color, very colorful when paired against the turquoise waters around Florida.
Coquina is a sedimentary rock composed almost entirely of sand-size fossil debris. The fossils are usually small mollusk or gastropod shells and shell fragments. Brachiopod, trilobite, coral, ostracod and other invertebrate shell debris is present in many coquinas. The fossil debris of coquina is composed of calcium carbonate, making coquina a variety of limestone.
Like many photographers, I didn't begin the process becoming a professional photographer, as a conscious decision. The decision was a linear progression over many years. I like to travel, so naturally would photograph to document our travels. My before retirement job required I learn the basics of photography and programming using a point and shoot camera. The move to professional photography changed over time. I was encouraged to buy a better camera as my photographs got better. Gradually as my photography got better, I was further encouraged to move to selling and becoming a professional. We are surrounded by beauty, but so much isn't noticed.
