On our trip to Amsterdam to see our grandson at the university we took the opportunity to stroll the old city. The intersection of Leidsegracht and Keizersgracht canals, has to be one of my favorite spots with circular lights around the openings. The golden lights of the Amsterdam canals twinkle at night, framing the old, wonderful, charming nearby buildings and shops. It's a wonderful spot to people watch as the strollers and bicycles manage their way through this scenic, historic area.
Built during the city’s Golden Age in the 17th century, the canals form a concentric belt around the city center. The canals (65 miles long with more than a thousand bridges) and the houses that line them are a favorite spot for tourists to visit and and have been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We took the opportunity to experience these wonderful canals after Christmas on one of many tour boats that wind their way through this beautiful city.

Like many photographers, I didn't begin the process becoming a professional photographer, as a conscious decision. The decision was a linear progression over many years. I like to travel, so naturally would photograph to document our travels. My before retirement job required I learn the basics of photography and programming using a point and shoot camera. The move to professional photography changed over time. I was encouraged to buy a better camera as my photographs got better. Gradually as my photography got better, I was further encouraged to move to selling and becoming a professional. We are surrounded by beauty, but so much isn't noticed.
