Description
It had been a wonderful trip visiting the barrier islands of North Carolina, traveling the coast down to Ocracoke and across the ferry to Hatterhas Island, terrific views, great seafood and my honey. Can't beat the combination for me or anyone else.
To reach the oldest still-operating lighthouse in North Carolina, you can take a free ferry from Hatteras to Ocracoke Island. The whitewashed lighthouse is one of the nation’s five oldest still-active facilities. Although you can't climb the stairs to the top, the view from the base alone is worth the trip. The village is steeped in history, only accessible by water or air and was once a safe haven for the infamous pirate Blackbeard.
This photograph was taken during what we photographers call the golden hour right before the last rays of the sun disappear for the day. We didn't get back to our camping spot until late in the evening. It was a glorious day with perfect temperatures in late Spring.
