To my original Viking long ship photo, at the Viking Ship Museum in Oslo Viking Ship Museum on the Bygdøy peninsula, there is a bit of added texture to the photo and an inspiration quote. "The goak is to die with memories not dreams" and in capital letters "EXPLORE." (RB)
Hands down this is my favorite boat for it's long, simple, sexy lines. I had seen this Viking long ships (long boats) in photos, but nothing can compare to actually seeing them in person.
The Oseberg Viking longships were pleasure yachts. One is 70 feet long and 16 feet wide. Single square sails and fifteen pairs of oars powered them. The researchers estimate this Viking ship could achieve a speed of up to 10 knots. It was built in the first decades of the ninth century, A.D. T he ship dates from before year 800, buried since 834. Like many photographers, I didn't begin the process becoming a professional photographer, as a conscious decision. The decision was a linear progression over many years. I like to travel, so naturally would photograph to document our travels. My before retirement job required I learn the basics of photography and programming using a point and shoot camera. The move to professional photography changed over time. I was encouraged to buy a better camera as my photographs got better.
