Known for it's stunning scenery and world class hiking, biking and skiing opportunities, Possa di Fassa (Pozza di Fasso) Mountains, part of the Italian Dolomite Mountains and northern Italian Alps, this area will be home to the 2026 Cortina Winter Olympic Games and is part of the which encompasses 7 ski resorts of the Super Ski Area.The area has a number of national and natural parks.


Pozza di Fassa or in old Ladin, Poza de Fascia, Potzach im Fasstal in German is a frazione of Sèn Jan di Fassa in Trentino in the northern Italian region Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, located close to Trento, about 2 hours north of Venice. This area is part of the protected UNESCO Italian Dolomite Mountains. The Visio River runs through the valley.

Known for world class sport events, skiing, road racing, motorcycle racing and hiking opportunities. Permanent resident population generally hovers around 2,000 people, who speak mostly German, Italian and Ladin and mostly live in the Val di Fassa. This old area is very close to Switzerland and also Austria.

Pictured are some mountains near Canazei, Tiers, Mazzin, Welschnofen, Rocca Pietore, Vigo di Fassa, Moena and Soraga. I love the layered hillsides silhouetted against the gray mountains and stormy skies this particular day. The ski mounds were carpeted by tiny yellow wildflowers in June. The humped skiing mogul paths lead your eyes to the dark, almost black evergreen trees being silhouetted against the light mountains and stormy and foggy skies.

I meant the photo to feel dramatic, but calm and peaceful at the same time. I hope you like it as much as I do.
