Description
Saxis is but one of the quaint, historic, fishing villages of the Delmarva, Virginia, Maryland and Delaware that are fast disappearing. This peninsula town serves as an unloading spot on the Chesapeake for Virginia crabs and in the last census logged in with about 250 people. When we visited in April, it was cold and windy, no people about, no boats coming in, just strong winds and the waves that follow. This depilated, vacant, old crab shack is pictured with a picturesque old beached fishing boat in the foreground. I love the colors in this scene that could have been taken 100 years ago.
