We haven't had much rain since July, so I really didn't expect much when I headed up to the Jefferson National Forest, part of the Blue Ridge Parkway between Lynchburg and Roanoke, near Bedford and Buchanan, Virginia. This is what I found on the Blue Ridge, at Mill's Gap, one autumn afternoon, near the Peaks of Otter. Visable are wonderful rust colors with a backdrop of the famous blue mountains layered as far as the eye could see. Off to the left is the James River leading up ot the head waters near Buchanan.
