Artist's Description
What caught my eye was the Amsterdam Staalstraat Bridge on Kloveniersburgwal Canal. A cogwheel, dark-green riveted iron drawbridge near Kadijksplein, Amsterdam, looking toward the church off in the distance, the details include these ominious spikes. The canal was lined with boats parked along the shoreline creating a disconnect from the huge, massive ironwork of the cog structure that raised the bridge. These beefy, historic structures are reminders of times past, gradually being phased out today.

Like many photographers, I didn't begin the process becoming a professional photographer, as a conscious decision. The decision was a linear progression over many years. I like to travel, so naturally would photograph to document our travels. My before retirement job required I learn the basics of photography and programming using a point and shoot camera. The move to professional photography changed over time. I was encouraged to buy a better camera as my photographs got better. Gradually as my photography got better, I was further encouraged to move to selling and becoming a professional. We are surrounded by beauty, but so much isn't noticed.
